The World Archaeological Congress is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization and is the only archaeological organisation with elected global representation. Membership is open to archaeologists, heritage managers, students and members of the public.
The goals of WAC are to:
- promote interest in the past in all countries
- encourage the development of regionally-based histories
- foster international academic interaction
WAC is committed to diversity and to redressing global inequities in archaeology through conferences, publications and scholarly programs. It has a special interest in protecting the cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples, minorities and economically disadvantaged countries, and encourages the participation of Indigenous peoples, researchers from economically disadvantaged countries and members of the public.
Statement on the date-overlap between 8th World Archaeological Congress, Kyoto and 22nd European Association of Archaeologists Conference, Vilnius
WAC and EAA Executives
We the executives of the World Archaeological Congress and European Association of Archaeologists regret to inform you that the dates for 8th World Archaeological Congress, Kyoto (WAC-8 Kyoto) and 22nd European Association of Archaeologists Conference, Vilnius (EAA-22) are overlapped; WAC-8 between 28th August and 2nd September 2016, and EAA-22 between 30th August and 4th September. We regret the lack of coordination that led to this date-overlap, and apologise for any inconvenience caused to our memberships and the world archaeological community. We will do our best to prevent this from happening again, and want to inform you that we have already started working together to set up a website featuring dates for archaeological conferences and events across the world.
